Daijana Wallace (b.1994) is a composer of “classical” music hailing from Junction City, KS. She has been involved in music since she could remember, singing in the youth choirs at church and playing cello in school orchestra. Daijana found comfort in composing after the sudden death of her father in her late teens, and to some extent, her music still expresses her inner thoughts and feelings. When writing now, she thinks about long walks in parks, interactions with friends, awkward exchanges with strangers, playing chamber music, and jamming on the cello when she really (really) needs to be practicing, which allows her music to take shape in different sound worlds and styles. Daijana’s music has been heard around the US in places like Brevard Music Center and Wichita’s KNOB fest, as well as at the Cortona Sessions for New Music in Italy, and, she looks forward to premieres of her music in London, UK, and Prince Edward Island, Canada. Daijana has degrees in music composition (BA) and cello performance (BA) from Wichita State University under the guidance of Aleks Sternfeld-Dunn and Walter Mays, and Leonid Shukaev respectively, and a Master’s degree in music composition (MM) from Michigan State University under the guidance of Ricardo Lorenz and David Biedenbender. When she’s not composing, Daijana enjoys chamber music, cocktails, cooking, and tweeting.
